Waiting On Wednesday: To Be Perfectly Honest: A Novel Based on an Untrue Story

"Waiting On" Wednesday is a weekly event, hosted by Jill at Breaking the Spine, that spotlights upcoming releases that we're eagerly anticipating.

This week's pre-publication "can't-wait-to-read" selection is:

To Be Perfectly Honest: A Novel Based on an Untrue Story
by Sonya Sones
Published by August 27, 2013
Publication Date: Simon & Schuster Books for Young Readers

(from Sonya Sones - updated 4/22/2013)

My name is Colette.
This book is about
me.

Who am I?
To be perfectly honest,
I’m not exactly sure who I am.

I guess you could say
I’m the fifteen-year-old daughter
of an annoyingly famous movie star.

Or maybe
I’m the eighteen-year-old daughter
of a famous movie star’s stand-in.

Or maybe
I’m the thousand-year-old daughter
of a vampire…

Having trouble guessing
which one of these stories is true?
Join the club.

My friends
have a joke about me:
How can you tell if Colette is lying?

Her mouth is open.

Why I'm Waiting

It is the latest YA verse novel by Sonya Sones. That in itself is enough reason to want to read To Be Perfectly Honest. Sones is an auto-buy author for me, but even if she wasn't, this story sounds like one I'd like to read because of the nature of the Colette as an unreliable character. We already know that she is a compulsive liar, but what about when she starts to tell the truth - if she ever starts to tell the truth. Will we ever be able to believe her?

What are you waiting for?

  2. This is my first time hearing of this book AND Sonya Sones (dips head in shame). This book sounds right up my ally and if she's an auto-buy author for you then she must be talented! I'll definitely be adding this to my TBR list! Thanks for sharing!!

    1. She is definitely worth checking out - especially if you are a fan of novels in verse. Or even of you are not, she's a great author to introduce you to them!
