One year ago, Kitty's boyfriend Nikki Bramley visited a psychic who told him he had no future. Now, he's dead.

With the Bramley family grieving in separate corners of their home, Kitty sets out to find the psychic who read Nikki his fate. Instead she finds Roan, an enigmatic boy posing as a medium who belongs to the Life and Death Parade--a group of supposed charlatans that explore, and exploit, the thin veil between this world and the next. A group whose members include the psychic... and Kitty's late mother.

Desperate to learn more about the group and their connection to Nikki, Kitty convinces Roan to return to the Bramley house with her and secures a position for him within the household. Roan quickly ingratiates himself with the Bramleys, and soon enough it seems like everyone is ready to move on. Kitty, however, increasingly suspects Roan knows more about Nikki than he's letting on. And when they finally locate the Life and Death Parade, and the psychic who made that fateful prophecy to Nikki, Kitty uncovers a secret about Roan that changes everything.

From rising star Eliza Wass comes a sophisticated, mesmerizing meditation on the depths of grief and the magic of faith. After all, it only works if you believe it.

Mini-Reviews: Too Late, It Ends with Us, and Say You'll Stay

A collection of mini-reviews, quick thoughts, and books worth mentioning. Check them out!

TOO LATE by C. Hoover
Publication Date: November 13, 2016
Pages: 395
Source: Purchased
Rating: 4 of 5

My Thoughts

It seems silly to say that I'm afraid to read a book, but that is exactly how I felt before I read Too Late. From reading some reviews and some reader friends comments, I knew that there were some hateful ass, despicable, dangerous characters that were going to enrage me, and there definitely are. But that is also the draw of this book. Strange, but true. And there is a love story in there too. I just had to experience all of the fear and pain and heartbreak to get to it. I'm going to need a nice, sweet, and fun book to read next to recover from this.

IT ENDS WITH US by Colleen Hoover
Publication Date: August 2, 2016

Rating: 5 of 5
Synopsis

My Thoughts
So good, like I knew it would be. And I cried, just like I expected I would and why I held off reading it for over 2 months. I wasn't ready for the emotions and this book made me feel many. I'm just glad that I don't have to worry about avoiding spoilers anymore.

SAY YOU'LL STAY by Corinne Michaels
Publication Date: June 20, 2016
Pages: 320
Source: Purchased
Rating: 4.5 of 5
Synopsis

My Thoughts
I love a great small town story and second chances at love so when SAY YOU'LL STAY was selected by my book club, I was all for it. This book was on my wishlist and one that I would get to eventually, but it was nice to read with my friends. SAY YOU'LL STAY reminded me a little of the movie Sweet Home Alabama - which I love. And the mentions of Dawson's Creek and a shout out to Pacey was just a little bit of icing on top.

I'm not going to lie, I was overwhelmed with sadness in the first few chapters. Presley experiences the depths of sorrow and was in shock of the reality that was her life.
But it wasn't all sadness. Presley works to find her way through it. I loved Wyatt and her close friendship with him. There was so much love between them. And he doesn't hold back. And Zach. And this favorite quote: "That's the thing about young love in  a small town -- it never dies."
I'm excited to read the next book in this series!

Five seconds.
A deafening blast. Pain. Silence.
That was all it took for an IED to end my life as I knew it. The man I was shattered in a hard wave of sound and debris that rained down on me like death itself.
And six months later, after waking up to an inescapable hell, I found myself wishing that death had found me.
Until her.
Miranda Jacobs swept into my life like a cool breeze on a smoldering day.
With her smart mouth and her ridiculous jokes, she brought me back to life one minute at a time.
Turned out time wasn’t on our side.

Screams. Twisted metal. Silence.

Synopsis

A warm, wry, sharply observed debut novel about what happens when a family is forced to spend a week together in quarantine over the holidays...

It's Christmas, and for the first time in years the entire Birch family will be under one roof. Even Emma and Andrew's elder daughter--who is usually off saving the world--will be joining them at Weyfield Hall, their aging country estate. But Olivia, a doctor, is only coming home because she has to. Having just returned from treating an epidemic abroad, she's been told she must stay in quarantine for a week...and so too should her family.

For the next seven days, the Birches are locked down, cut off from the rest of humanity--and even decent Wi-Fi--and forced into each other's orbits. Younger, unabashedly frivolous daughter Phoebe is fixated on her upcoming wedding, while Olivia deals with the culture shock of being immersed in first-world problems.

As Andrew sequesters himself in his study writing scathing restaurant reviews and remembering his glory days as a war correspondent, Emma hides a secret that will turn the whole family upside down.

In close proximity, not much can stay hidden for long, and as revelations and long-held tensions come to light, nothing is more shocking than the unexpected guest who's about to arrive...

SUMMARY
"Heartbreaking...inspiring, uplifting and raw..." ― RT Book Reviews, A 5-star Gold Pick

A broken woman . . .

Crystal learned long ago that love brings only pain. Feeling nothing at all is far better than being hurt again. She guards her wounded heart behind a hard exterior and carries within her a deep mistrust of men, who, in her experience, have only ever used and taken.

A man in need of help . . .

Then Gabriel Dalton walks into her life. Despite the terrible darkness of his past, there's an undeniable goodness in him. And even though she knows the cost, Crystal finds herself drawn to Gabriel. His quiet strength is wearing down her defenses and his gentle patience is causing her to question everything she thought she knew.

Only love can mend a shattered heart . . .

Crystal and Gabriel never imagined that the world, which had stolen everything from them, would bring them a deep love like this. Except fate will only take them so far, and now the choice is theirs: Harden their hearts once again or find the courage to shed their painful pasts.

Synopsis

The road for Noah Westbury has been carved out for him, long before he knew who his father was.  Making sure he worked hard to deserve the opportunities provided to him, Noah is exactly where he dreamed of being - starting QB for Portland Pioneers. Together with a Victoria Secret's model girlfriend by his side, life couldn't get much better. Except for the fact that standing in his path is Peyton Powell-James, his life-long friend and the one woman he can never have.
Peyton Powell-James always knew her future would be in football and dreams of having a successful sports journalism career once she graduates college. After being given an assignment to cover a professional game from the sidelines, Peyton believes that everything is going to plan, until one fateful night changes her life.
Harsh reality sets in for Noah and Peyton. One could lose everything, while the other one struggles to keep the families together.

My Thoughts

Oh my heart. I'm going to need some time to recover from this one.

I was hit full force with the latest book of the Beaumont Series, Holding Onto Forever. I love that Noah and Peyton finally get their story told. As the children of 4225 West, I’ve grown to care about these characters and they hold a special place in my heart.

I was on the verge of tears for most of the book - I can only describe it was the face-numbing fear and just heartache. I honestly wasn’t sure if I was going to make it through with my heart intact because I was feeling all of the feelings. Why must Heidi make me cry like this? I really wanted someone to hold my hand and comfort me telling me it was going to get better and it was all going to work out. AND I am NOT being overly dramatic. BUT this is why I love this series.

I have some much love for this book. There are many highs and lows and so much love that it’s overflowing. We get to see vulnerable characters - Liam and Harrison in dad mode. We get to be in on the joke of the long names of Powell-James family. We get to experience the friendship and love between Noah and Peyton which we knew existed all along. And then there is Mason. Oh Mason.

With every book of the Beaumont series, my emotions get all tangled up and I become invested in these stories. It’s a testament to Heidi’s craft and what she’s created with this series. I can’t wait to read more books of Beaumont - The Next Generation.

I loved it!!
