Lucy and Owen meet somewhere between the tenth and eleventh floors of a New York City apartment building, on an elevator rendered useless by a citywide blackout. After they're rescued, they spend a single night together, wandering the darkened streets and marveling at the rare appearance of stars above Manhattan. But once the power is restored, so is reality. Lucy soon moves to Edinburgh with her parents, while Owen heads out west with his father.
Lucy and Owen's relationship plays out across the globe as they stay in touch through postcards, occasional e-mails, and -- finally -- a reunion in the city where they first met.
A carefully charted map of a long-distance relationship, Jennifer E. Smith's new novel shows that the center of the world isn't necessarily a place. It can be a person, too.
Why I'm Waiting
I recently read a novella about two strangers stuck on an elevator and loved the connection developed between the two of them in the confined space. I know that this book probably isn't going to be anything like it, but I like the concept. And I want to see how these characters stay connected when kept apart by such a vast distance. So far I've only read one of Jennifer's books, The Statistical Probability of Love at First Sight, but I enjoyed it so much that I want to read all of her books.
I'm looking forward to this book as well. I love the idea of them being stuck in the elevator and the long distance relationship.
ReplyDeleteIt has a nice looking cover too. I love Jennifer's writing, so I'm hoping I'll love this too.
Great pick! :)

I didn't realize that she had a new one coming out either but I came across a cover reveal on Twitter and immediately added it here and to my Goodreads TBR list.
DeleteI'm so so excited about this book. From the description, it looks like it's going to include things that I loved in all her other books.
