My Thoughts

I read a lot of friends to more books. It is one of my favorite tropes. Check out my reading list if you don’t believe me. That’s why I wanted to read SAVING IT and it is one of the reasons that I liked it. I loved the friendship between Eden and Josh - their easiness, their familiarity with each other. Like their best friends and family, and practically anyone who was around them, I wondered when they were going to figure out.

I do have say that Josh’s reasoning for wanting to lose his virginity irritated me.

Why does Josh worry so much about having sex? Why does he worry what his friends think? Just because he can’t talk about his experiences with his friends, and he feels left out, he wants to have sex. I didn’t buy it. And the more we get to know about him, his words didn’t reflect his actions. He was the relationship kind of guy. He was about more than just the casual hook up. He just needed to figure that out.

Overall, I liked SAVING IT. I liked how the author portrayed the friendships, the relationships, and even the jealousy of friends how beginning to see what was right in front of them all along. I’m glad that Eden and Josh were able to finally figure it out. They might not have been each other’s first love, but they did experience some other firsts together - and it was sweet and authentic and awkward and real.

My Thoughts

DON'T KISS THE MESSENGER is a fun read about love, identity, self-awareness, self acceptance, and friendship. When I first learned that Katie Ray had a new book coming out for Entangled Crush, it immediately went on my TBR list. I was vaguely aware of the story of Cyrano de Bergerac, I enjoy reading retellings, and I was interested in reading Katie Ray’s YA retelling of this story.

Straight off, I was a fan of CeCe and her no-nonsense "this is me, just as I am" self. And for other reasons, it was easy to relate to CeCe. Oh man, how did I know how CeCe felt, having a connection and then falling for the one who is falling for your friend. Too often I heard dreaded words, “Can you talk to her for me?” Bryn and CeCe’s situation was a little different, since she was helping Bryn with talking to Emmett, but the feeling of resignation is there because of course you want to help your friend find love with the one she is falling for.

I loved CeCe’s beautiful words in her emails to Emmett. They are poetry and show that it is easier to reveal your true self behind a veil. She had so much depth and knew how to express her emotions, it’s just too bad that she couldn’t use them for herself, but instead used them to give Bryn a voice.

I just know there was more to Bryn, but it was overshadowed by the intimidation of Emmett's intensity. I would've liked to see more of Bryn outside of who she was when she was with Emmett. It was easy to identify with that side of her too. Sometimes you are at a loss for words, but CeCe knew there was more substance to Bryn, and I wanted to see more of THAT girl.

What I liked:

• CeCe and Tuba’s friendship - I loved the humor, the knowing looks, the fun!
• The characters were athletes and intellectuals - you can be both!
• Some REAL TALK between CeCe and her mother - especially when CeCe tells her mother that she needs to let her be broken. She can’t always be strong.

I really enjoyed DON'T KISS THE MESSENGER and I want to know the other characters. Will Tuba get her own story? Please say YES! I’m looking forward to reading more books in the Edgelake High series and more books by Katie Ray.

My Thoughts

I am really enjoying this high school reunion series! 

Author Candy Sloane continues her Most Likely To series with Georgia and Gideon's story. Georgia and Gideon made brief appearances in Best Friends with Benefits and with Wrong Bed Reunion, readers get to know what was really going on with these two. There's love, there's hate. There are emotions flying all over the place and drama. I love it!

After finishing chapter one, my first thought was if Georgia doesn't want Gideon, I will certainly take him. He is absolutely the kind of guy to swoon over - a must add to the book boyfriend list. I'm telling you now! He's the good guy, the sensitive one who you might not see the potential in initially, but give him a chance and he's the one who will care for you and treat you right.

Favorite Quotes

Oh, just something about a "Peach pop" that is just a little too racy to share here, but it made me laugh out loud and let me know that Gideon has one filthy mouth on him.

"I know we are supposed to be pretending, but the only acting I'm doing is denying how badly I want to kiss you again." - Gideon

Some Favorite Scenes:

I adored the scenes with Georgia and her niece. It showed her depth and tenderness when it wasn't always evident. You may ask, why was Georgia's niece at her high school reunion? Well, you'll just have to read Wrong Red Reunion to find out.

With each book I've read, a part of me wishes that I could know them as teenagers. There are some flashback scenes, but I want more. I love the angst - give it to me!

I love the humor that is infused throughout. And the sexytimes keeps this book on fire. It's scorching! I can't wait to read more by Candy Sloane.

My Thoughts

Stories about first love are some of my favorites to read. That is what drew me to read PIECES OF YOU AND ME (and I love the title). It's about friendship and young, tortured, and inevitable love. It was a fun read with some really special sweet moments between former best friends who become more.

What I Liked:

• The fierce loyalty of friendship - especially Mya's relationship with Rylee - Mya may have stepped out of line when protecting Rylee, but it always came from a good place
• The parents giving "the talk" - Rylee and Chase aren't kids anymore
• Teachers who care
• The history of the composition books and how Chase and Rylee opened up to each other through the books
• All of the moments when Rylee wouldn't give Chase an inch. She believed in him and in them 

Favorite Quotes/Moments:

Rylee misinterpreting the signs:

"I want you . . ."

I closed my eyes. "Okay." 

But after a moment, I didn't feel his mouth on mine, so I opened my eyes. He was grinning down at me, almost like he was struggling to hold in a laugh. "I want you to come with me."

The inevitable:

"God I missed you," he said.

"It wasn't that long."

"It was too long."

So sweet!

I would have liked to know more about what happened with Chase during the five years he was out of Rylee's life - especially his relationship with his stepdad Mark. There is more to that story that needs to be told. Chase had a lot of pain that he wasn't dealing and knowing his past would have helped me know him a little bit better.

PIECES OF YOU AND ME is another book from the Entangled Crush imprint that I have come to enjoy. It is the first book by Erin Fletcher that I've read and am looking forward to reading more of her books (I already have her first book on my e-reader, so I'll get to it soon!) Rylee and Chase's story was a pleasure to read and I would love to see them in future books!
