Challenge ends 5/8/11

To get you started, here's my challenge example:
When Jacob is trying to decide if he can be friends with Bella again at the beginning of Eclipse, I could imagine him scream-singing "Whataya Want from Me" at Bella. He can't decide if he wants to make up with her and is confused by their relationship because he thinks she may want more but she can't admit it to him or to herself. The playful side of Jacob, and the part of him that wants to make up with Bella, just might even sport some Adam Lambert guy-liner.

  1. If Magnus Bane from the Mortal Instruments entered a Karaoke Booth he would probably sing 'Do you wanna touch me' by Joan Jett for Alec Lightwood. Magnus is very flashy and blunt and he is obviously very into Alec. He doesn't care about others opinions. By singing this he's asking Alec for some *cough*.

This would be hilarious coz i'm sure alec would start squirming as he is shy and kinda reserved. Lol.

    Clarissa Pereira

  2. How about if Jericho Z. Barrons from The Fever Series by Karen MArie Moning starts a bluezy jazz rendition of "I put a spell on you" by Nina Simone! Can you imagine him all sexy and, well, Jericho Barrons singing Nina Simone! It will either be very sexy or very funny!

    blazesandbubbles AT gmail DOT com

  3. Hmmm ... how about Katniss singing "I'm Alive!" by Lazard. And the reason is the most obvious imaginable :-D !!

    danaan at gmx dot at

  4. Well in Paranormalcy I can totally see Evie rocking out to "Life is a fairytale" :)

  5. I can see Acheron, by Sherrilyn Kenyon, in the book Acheron (LOL), singing Savin' Me by Nickelback. Technically he already DID sing it in the book, but it's just SO perfect for him... it fits so well with his story, all he suffered and how he finally accepts help and 'saving' from the heroine...
    "All I need is you
    Come please I'm callin'
And oh I scream for you
    Hurry I'm fallin', I'm fallin'...
And I'll leave this life behind me
Say it if it's worth saving me"

    It's beautiful. :)

  6. This is a bit of a cheat because it is more than one character, but the little cast of improbable friends from Melina Marchetta's Saving Francesca (and companion novel The Piper's Son) always make me think of the song Birds of a Feather by The Rosenbergs. I can picture all of them dancing to it together: Francesca, Jimmy, Tom, Tara, Siobhan, and Justine.

    Sommer Leigh

  7. Jack Torrance, from Stephen King's The Shining, enters the karaoke booth.

He opens a bottle of spirits and gargles, readying himself for a night of fun. After all, all work and no play makes Jack a dull boy.

The music begins and Jack belts out ‘Crazy’ by Gnarls Barkley.

    I remember when, I remember
I remember when I lost my mind
There was something so pleasant about that place
Even your emotions have an echo in so much space
    Does that make me crazy?

    nicnac63 [at] gmail [dot] com

  8. Eddie Russet from Jasper Fforde's Shades of Grey would definitely sing "Shades of Grey" by Billy Joel because a.) he does see "shades of grey where ever I go" and b.) realizes "the more I find out the less that I know."

  9. +JMJ+

    What a fantastic question! =D

I'd like Mr. Rochester to sing A Girl Like You to Jane Eyre! He could do it during the house party, so that Blanche Ingram thinks it's actually about her. =P (We'd have to find him a Victorian equivalent for "protest singers" and "protest songs," though.)

When this song first came out, I thought it was really creepy and stalkerish, and didn't like it. Well, Mr. Rochester has his creepy, stalkerish side, too. It fits him! (It's also a great song to have ringing in our ears right before the novel's fortune telling scene!)

  10. Since I just read two Sookie Stackhouse books, those characters are the freshest in my mind. I can imagine Eric singing "Keep On Loving You" to Sookie.

the imagine tree at aol dot com

  11. Sinclair Youngblood Powers (gotta love that name) Our time misplaced hero, villain and very frustrated main character in the book Swoon by Nina Malkin would enter our Karaoke booth where he would belt out a classic song of frustration and release his pain within by singing.

Four Non Blondes - What's UP
Give it a listen and tell me.....wouldn't you feel better after singing this at the top of your lungs?

    I follow GFC as veltara

  12. This comment has been removed by the author.

  13. I see Harry Potter would, at the end of everything, at the epic fight scene in the Deathly Hallows striding out with all the people on his side signing "Uprising" by Muse.
    They will not force us

    They will stop degrading us

    They will not control us

    We will be victorious

They'd all be signing that (Harry screaming it!) against Lord Voldemort and the Death Eaters!
For obvious reasons - after all Harry and his friends and family have been through, they just want victory against Voldemort.

    Great question!

  14. I'll pick Lula from Stehpanie Plum series by Janet Evanovich and I think she would sing Proud Mary!!! Love Lula!!

  15. I think Patch from Hush, Hush by Becca Fitzpatrick, if forced to do karoake, would choose "Tainted Love" for Nora. Patch always worries he's not a good fit for Nora, but he also doesn't care, and really, his idea of romance, is probably a little skewed.

    tommygirl828 (at) gmail (dot) com

  16. I can totally see/hear Wesley Rush from Kody Keplinger's The DUFF singing Fever For the Flava by Hot Action Cop. :)

He's a (funny, lovable and charming) man-slut and he doesn't take himself too seriously. This song is just perfect for him. :D

    International follower.

  17. I Just cannot help it - in trying to think of a character to give me a chuckle while doing karaoke I have a blaring neon sign that says it has to be Stephanie Plum's granny up there singing if you think I'm sexy. I am a fan of Janet Evanovich and granny's antics always can make me laugh.
I found your blog through another site and have signed up today and look forward to reading more of what you have to say - hooray for humor!

  18. Sorry forgot to leave my email.
    Denise from Oregon
thanks again for you participation in the Spring Blog Carnival

  19. Meghan and Ash from Julie Kagawa's Iron Fey series would sing a duet of "How Do I Get You Alone."

This was fun! I'm a vocalist first, reader/writer second, so I LOVE this!

  20. I imagine Rhine from "Wither" (The Chemical Garden Trilogy) by Lauren DeStefano get into the Karaoke Booth. She carefully looks at the song selections, until her eyes fall on a song that automatically transfers her back to the way she felt when she took Gabriel's hand and walked away from her husband Linden, and his controlling father Housemaster Vaughn. She knows this song is perfect, not just because it empowers her, but also because she is totally unsure of where life is taking her - but rather than shy away from the challenge of the unknown, she is ready to embrace is as long as she has her freedom!

She closes her eyes, relaxes her shoulders, opens her mouth, and these words come out...."I am unwritten, can't read my mind, I'm undefined/I'm just beginning, the pen's in my hand, ending unplanned..." (Unwritten by Natasha Bedingfield).

    ~The End~

Thank you for hosting this amazingly generous giveaway and being part of this amazing blog hop! :D

  21. I'm thinking of Rose from VA, who would get turned on whenever in battle with Dimitri. I can just imagine her screaming, "HIT ME BABY ONE MORE TIME!"
    I'd laugh my voice away.
    shyluck13 AT hotmail DOT com

  22. Oh, that's such a cool idea!
In my imagination Jace Wayland from The Mortal Instruments series enters the Karaoke Booth (shritless of course) and sings "I will always love you" dedicated to the love of his life (me!:D)*swooons**giggles hysterically*

  23. I'm thinking of Katniss and Peeta in the first book. The song? Long Live by Taylor Swift. It reminds me of when she volunteered (spell?) for her sister and Peeta was called. All that they went through. When they came back to their district. This song just has it all. It just- wow!

    marynellie8 at yahoo dot com

  24. This is fun! :)

I pick Ally Ryan from She's So Dead to Us by Kieran Scott. The song she would be singing is All Love by Ingrid Michaelson.

While reading the book I got introduced to this song and it totally feels like her situation and I think it works well.

She'd be singing to Jake and her old crestie friends. But mostly Jake.

It's an awesome book and song, so check them out if you haven't! :)

  25. Seriously? Jace Wayland from the Mortal Instruments singing "I'm too Sexy" would be the most epic thing ever. That boy is all about some self-confidence, with a smidge of arrogance. ;D

    Liz Tea

  26. I think Hermione from Harry Potter would be thinking about Ron and she'd sing "I'd Lie" by Taylor Swift.

"And I could tell you, his favorite color's green. He loves to argue, born on the seventeenth. His sister's beautiful, he has his father's eyes. And if you ask me if I love him, I'd lie."

  27. Macy from Sarah Dessen's "The Truth About Forever" would definitely sing "It's the End of the World" by REM. Because she's always "fine, just fine," and if it was the end of the world as we know it? She probably would feel fine. Or at least pretend to be that way on the outside!

    fletch8502 at yahoo dot com

Erin @ Quitting My Day Job

  28. In Ellen Wittlinger's Hard Love , John meets and falls in love with Marisol. She ultimately breaks his heart, hard. At the end when she is leaving him I feel like he would be screaming Adele's "Rolling in the Deep" (I know that's a girl song, but it's about heartbreak and revenge and so appropriate). I think he is so mad and confused that she doesn't understand that she broke his heart, that this is perfect.

    Awesome giveaway!

    eliweibley at gmail dot com

  29. I'm thinking of Alex Craft from Grave Witch by Kalayna Price singing Born to be Alive. Love that song!! Alex raises the dead as shades, to answer questions about the death, and once to take the stand in court, plus she has a rather questionable relationship with the grim reaper himself. It was a great book and I'm really looking forward to number 2. Artesia at comcast dot net

  30. If Mr. Darcy from Pride and Prejudice went to a Karaoke Booth (wonder where he found that time machine?) he would be confused, of course, but he's a smart guy. Seeing the song "I Want You To Want Me" he decides this is the song for him and, singing his passionate heart out, hopes Elizabeth can hear him across the centuries.

  31. I am reading The Liar Society right now and I imagine Grace (the ghost) entering the booth singing "Secret" from The Pierces. This book is filled with mysterious secrets that Kate needs to find out and everyone at PB seems to know but her. Since Grace is trying to help Kate solve her murder, I imagine this song being sung!

  32. In Spirit Bound (Vampire Academy 5) by Richelle Mead when Dimitri pushes Rose away I picture this haunting song being sung(that I just heard for the first time today and can't get out of my head).

It is called the ladder song by Bright eyes.

The lyrics go:"No one knows where the ladder goes
You're gonna lose what you love the most
    You're not alone in anything..."

Here is a link to it in case anyone wants to hear it:

    jlkalman26 at gmail dot com

  33. After reading "Bite Me" by Parker Blue I can just imagine Valentine Shapiro getting in that Karaoke Booth and singing her heart out to "Smells Like Teen Spirit" by Nirvana. She just wants her mother to accept all of her.

  34. I picture Bella Swan from Twilight by Stephenie Meyer...

A devastated Bella Swan, feeling numb at the memory of Edward walking out of her life, slowly walks out of the shadows of the karaoke booth and timidly walks towards the microphone. She clears her throat as the music comes on softly. She closes her eyes and thoughts of Edward flood her mind. She quietly begins singing, with her eyes closed, and her beautiful voice seems to come from the depths of her soul (To Make You Feel My Love" by Adele)
"...I could make you happy make your dreams come true. There is nothing that I wouldn't do. Go to the ends of the earth for you. To make you feel my love..."

    swaggirl01 at gmail dot com

  35. I can probably imagine Katie Mottola from The Locket by Stacey Jay singing 'Soon' by Hillsong United without the reference to Jesus in the chorus part of the song. Katie wants to fix her relationship with her 3 year long boyfriend, Isaac, because she was found "cheating" on him with their best friend, Mitch Birnbaum, by a girl in her drama crowd. She believes that she will soon be together with Isaac again and be in deep love with him because of how she gets a "second chance" in the book.

Book: The Locket - Stacey Jay
    Song: Soon - Hillsong United

  36. 0o0o0o0o0.... Edward Cullen <== and you know were he's from =) Twilight Series. and he is sing Truly, Madly, Deeply by the Savage Garden... WHY!? becuase he is truly, madly and deeply in love with Bella ... awww... =D I LOVE THIS CHALLENGE! AWESOME QUESTION!!! lol

  37. I think if Nora from Hush Hush entered the karaoke booth she would sing "arms" by Christina Perri to Patch, because when Christina Perri was interviewed on VH1 for the top 20 countdown she said the song was about being in love, but having that feeling of fear of getting hurt or not being good enough. i think this song perfectly narrates Nora's feelings for Patch, because she thinks she loves him, but she is scared of him at the same time and is always questioning if she is good enough. She gets constantly jealous of other girls and questions her confidence all the time.

    email: bookbitereviews@gmail.com
    name: Becky Paulk

  38. If Elder from Across the Universe stepped into a karaoke booth, he would sing I want to know what love is by Foreigner for Amy because he doesn't understand the feelings he has for her or what love is, he needs her to show him.

    AmethystDaydreams at zoho dot com

  39. I can picture Georgina Kincaid from Richelle Mead's Succubus series singing 'Love Hurts' by Incubus because she has so much drama in relation to her love life and has seen pretty much the best and worst of love. She's got heaps of tradegy and is a succubus so only sort of alive and the line "and it feels like I'm alive" totally relates. Plus she's so in love with Seth but doesn't think she'll get a happily ever after. And I love the song.

  40. If Payton Gritas from Sean Griswold's Head came in, she'd be singing "Fat Bottomed Girls" by Queen. She keeps trying to get moving and get in shape in her cycling class to keep up with Sean but doesn't feel it. wilsondev(at)gmail(Dot)com

  41. If Jamie from Being Jamie Baker entered a Karaoke Booth she would probably sing "Danger!High voltage" by Electric six. Jamie is falling in love with Ryan, so she would probably dedicate this song to him. She keeps warning him how dangerous she is, that's why the song is perfect. :)
    International follower.

  42. I hope you have read If I Stay where you can find the relation between Mia and Adam. :D

When she opened her eyes and recover from all wounds, Mia might choose song from Paramore, The Only Exception.

"Maybe I know someday, That love never last, and we've got to find other way...but darlin' ..You are the only exception"

    aleetha.ally at gmail dot com

  43. Trella (Inside Out by Maria V Snyder) steps up to the mic as Firework by Katy Perry begins to play. I see a montage of various times throughout the book where Trella sees the scrubs around her reach out to help her on her mission to find Gateway. Its the perfect song to describe how Trella goes from being just another scrub amongst the crowd to being a leader in the rebellion, a spark to light the fire Inside.

    Thanks for the giveaway!

    Jex @ Everything and Nothing

  44. Kat and Hale watch each other over a milkshake with two straws. In the background, somebody is screatching an off key rendition of a Journey ballad.

"Interesting choice," Kat says, looking around the karaoke venue. Garbrielle is standing in the corner, flirting with a stranger and the twins are hustling a few boys on the Pac Man machines.

Hale shrugs. "I figured everyone could use some down time. You know, unwind, let loose, etcetera. Oh, that reminds me-"

He pushed his chair away from the table and extended a hand to Kat. "We're up next."

As Hale half pulled have guided Kat to the brightly lit karaoke stage, the rest of their crew gathers around them until everyone is sharing two microphones and trying to see the bright blue screen.

"What are we doing?" Kat hisses, uncomfortable with so many people staring right at her.

"Letting loose." Hale winks and then nods to the DJ who pushes a button.

Crackling speakers on either side of the stage blast the opening bars to Cage the Elephant's 'Ain't No Rest For the Wicked' and Kat starts to smile.

  45. I just realized that I flipped twense twice in that... Oops :-/

    ... i is a Ing-lish major.

  46. Right now I am reading Wake Unto Me by Lisa Cach, I can imagine Caitlyn singing the Jack Johnson song Belle or Bella, I don't remember what it is called exactly. It's romantic and in a different language.

Val at truthbetold004 at gmail dot com

  47. I think that Katniss from The Hunger Games would sing "Stayin Alive"!

    pawprintsx at gmail.com

  48. If Edward Cullen from the Twilight Saga entered a Karaoke Booth he would sing "I Don't Wanna Miss a Thing". The first lines just remind me of the way that he'd lay beside Bella as she was sleeping, watching over the girl he loved.

"I could stay awake just to hear you breathing,
Watch you smile while you are sleeping,
    Far away and dreaming"

  49. If Puck from the Iron Fey series participated in a Karaoke Booth, he would sing something to make everyone (especially Meaghan!) laugh. I can picture him singing a Justin Bieber song, like "Baby." Come on - picture it! He jumps on stage and starts singing "baby, baby, baby oh, like baby, baby, baby, ooh, like" - You get the idea. Meg would be mortified ;)

    Thanks for the great challenge!

    Sonia (Canada)

  50. I would pick "Am A survivor" for Miranda from The Last Survivors trilogy because she is a survivor she is determined to survivor though all the disaters for her family :)

  51. Combining my dual love of music and books? I think I could kiss ya. ;-)

I've always pictured Violet (from Kimberly Derting's "Body Finder" series) singing Delta Goodrem's "LOst Without You" to Jay, especially during "Desires of the Dead" when they're broken up and Violet is a mess. The lyrics are just so epic and perfect.

"I thought I had all the answers,
    Never giving in
    But baby since you've gone,
I admit that I was wrong
All I know is I'm lost without you
    I'm not gonna lie
How am I gonna be strong without you?
I need you by my side"

I think this song is the embodiment of Violet's emotions.

  52. I think Connor would sing Aerosmith's ANGEL to Marielle in Kerrelyn Sparks' VAMPIRE MINE because she actually is an angel!
    manning_j2004 at yahoo dot com
    US GFC: June M.

  53. I recently read "As the Sycamore Grows," the true story of a woman named Ginger McNeil who survived physical and emotional abuse during a lengthy marriage. She would sing "I Will Survive." Because she really did. And she would sing it with soul because, as the book describes her, she's a wonderful, compassionate woman who is now working to help other women escape abusive situations. I highly recommend the book.

    jhsmail at comcast dot net

  54. That would be Twinkle Twinkle Little Star. LOL cause the book I read the main character is a five year old kid.

  55. This is the best contest. I have always wanted to have characters breakout into song. Specifically, Bella Swan in Eclipse. She was always the forward one in the relationship, but always getting shut down by Edward. So Bella would definitely sing "Untouched" by The Veronicas.

"Cause I can't wait wait wait any more more more more
Don't even talk about the consequence
Cause right now you're the only thing that's making any sense to me"
"I feel so untouched right now
    Need you so much somehow
    I can't forget you
Been going crazy from the moment I met you"

    Perfect for Bella.

    candicerjames (at) gmail (dot) com

  56. Hmmm... If Eve from the In Death series by JD Robb were to ever sing a song (I think she'd sooner shoot herself), I think she might sing Only Girl by Rihanna to her very pretty husband. Eve has had a terrible life causing her to have a very prickly personality. This has always prevented anyone from getting close to her. Roarke always manages to make her feel 'like the only girl in the world.' And he could have absolutely anyone, but he picked Eve despite her fighting him tooth and nail.

  57. If Shane from Morganville Vampires entered the Karaoke booth he would sing Stronger by Kanye West because "what doesn't kill you will only make you stronger"is his or anyone who lives in morganville's philosophy.(DATS what I think)

  58. I'm choosing Jace from the Mortal Instruments series and the song I'm choosing is 'I'm Too Sexy For My Shirt'. I think the reasoning behind this one's obvious, but I can totally imagine Jace singing this one.

    Great giveaway!

  59. Peeta would sing 'Make you feel my love' to Katniss because it would show her how much he loves her.

  60. Ash from Sherrilyn Kenyon's Acheron would sing I Want To Know What Love Is (by Foreigner) to Tory to show her how much she means to him.

  61. If Harry from Harry Potter were to sing a song, I think it would be We Are The Champions. XD After all, they did win the war!!

    infinitemusic19 at gmail dot com

  62. In Catching Fire, I can see Katniss singing "Uprising" by Muse. When Katniss think to start the uprising against Capitol, I think this song is perfect.

  63. This is such an awesome challenge! Let me think... *rubs head from thinking*
Aha! I have the perfect one:
I can totally see Po singing "Crashed Into You" by Chris Daughtry to Katsa in Graceling.
When they met, Katsa overpowered Po, knocking him unconscious. The song goes "and then I crashed into you...could've been the death of me, but then you breathed your breath in me." Katsa is stronger than Po, and could kill him if she wanted, but they're perfect together.

I can't help it, I have another one: Breathing by Cheryl Renee Herbsman is about Savannah, a girl with asthma and the boy, Jackson, who makes her feel better, but then has to leave, making her asthma get even worse than before. I can imagine Savannah singing Taylor Swift's "Breathe" to Jackson as she begs him to come back. "I can't breathe without you, but I have to."

Thanks so much for this giveaway! It was a lot of fun thinking of that!

  64. Meg from Going Too Far by Jennifer Echols singing to John Catch Me by Demi Lovato AND I Wouldn't Mind by He Is We. Those two songs are a MUST listen and that book is a MUST MUST read!

The relationship between Meg and John is just beautiful, just like those songs :))

    Jude Henderson

  65. Lena in Delirium would sing Tina Turner's "What's Love Got to Do with it"

    bookgoonie at yahoo.com

  66. This comment has been removed by the author.

  67. I was imagining Ash singing this to Meghan but later on I thought it was the perfect song to be sung by Meghan! I just finished Iron Daughter and this is so perfect for them!

Meghan would be singing to Ash "You and Me Against the World" by Tynisha Keli. Here are some bits: "Everybody said leave you alone, girl he's no good for you. But they can't judge what they don't know."
"No one could ever change the way I feel. Baby it's you and me against the world. It's ride or die til the very end."
"They can hate on us if they choose. No matter what they do, it's gonna be me and you forever. The way you love me is unnatural. Like I'm the only girl who is existing in your world." (Lyrics of Tynisha Keli's song provided by AZ lyrics: http://tinyurl.com/3c2lw4g)
