Mini-Reviews: CRAZY STUPID BROMANCE, LOVE HER OR LOSE HER, and MY EVERYTHING

A collection of mini-reviews, quick thoughts, and books worth mentioning. Check them out!

CRAZY STUPID BROMANCE by Lyssa Kay Adams
Publication Date: October 27, 2020
Pages: 342

Rating: ⭐⭐⭐⭐.5

My Thoughts

Could this one be my new favorite of the series? Yes is could!

Friends to more is a favorite trope - Alexis and Noah figuring out their friendship and admitting that there was more to it made me so happy. And getting to more of the personalities of the Bromance Book Club members was a wonderful bonus.

What I loved:
1. Mack and his friends planning his wedding to Liv. It's all about the details.
2. Alexis cat, Beefcake: "He had an unkempt, murderous look about him, as if he'd just gone a few rounds inside a clothes dryer and liked it" (pg 23). And he brought his own level of drama.
3. Alexis's cafe as a safe communal space for women to support each other.

I love this series for all of the laughs that it has given me. Can't wait for book #4!

LOVE HER OR LOSE HER by Tessa Bailey
Publication Date: January 14, 2020
Pages: 336
Source: Purchased
Rating: ⭐⭐⭐⭐
Synopsis (link to Goodreads)

My Thoughts

Tessa Bailey's LOVE HER OR LOSE HER had a much different feel from FIX HER UP - the first book of the Hot and Hammered collection. The heat level is just as high and the heart is definitely there, but the story of a troubled marriage stirs up a wide range of emotions. LOVE HER OR LOSE HER pulls on all of the heart strings and leaves readers wanting only the best for Dominic and Rosie as they experience their second chance at a lasting love.

Memorable Quote:
"Lately I’ve learned that letting something feel crazy, not rejecting the unfamiliarity of a situation . . . can lead to something amazing.”

This book made me laugh many times over and there were moments it touched my heart and made me cry. LOVE HER AND LOSE HER explores the different languages of love. Dominic's love for Rosie was deep and true and he would do anything for her. It was beautiful. He began to understand her and the ways she needed him to love her - not just as a provider. She needed actions of love, she needed his words of love. Experiencing them falling in love with each other again was magical. I loved it!!

MY EVERYTHING by Heidi McLaughlin
Beaumont Series 1.5
Publication Date: July 1, 2013
Pages: 88

Rating: ⭐⭐⭐⭐.5
Synopsis (link to Goodreads)

My Thoughts
(originally posted 10/11/2016)

When I read FOREVER MY GIRL, Nick Ashford wasn't a character who I could like. From the get-go, I wanted Josie and Liam to find their way back to each other and Nick was one of the obstacles keeping them from rediscovering their love. It was easy to see him as the "villian" of the story. But he wasn't. Not really. His actions were out of desperation of losing Josie's love and Noah.  I didn't truly understand that until I read MY EVERYTHING.

I loved that the story mainly takes place outside of Beaumont and focuses on Nick rebuilding his life and finding love after he meets Aubrey. I LOVED her character immediately. Her youthfulness was invigorating and she came into Nick's life at just the right time. While this novella is pretty short, just 88 pages, their love story is captivating.

I'm glad that we get a chance to see a different side of Nick in MY EVERYTHING. This novella is a great addition to the Beaumont Series.

Synopsis

Music is his passion. It’s in his blood. Yet, Quinn James isn’t sure if stardom is right for him. His family wants him to join a band, and follow in his father’s footsteps but fear holds him back. He can’t explain it, and when he tries, no one understands what he’s afraid of or why he’s content playing coffee shop gigs where no one knows him.
Eleanora Boone wants to live her life, not the one her very southern parents planned for her, which is why she chose a college thousands of miles away. Now she’s faced with returning home or doing something that would defy her family. When an opportunity to visit Los Angeles falls in her lap, she uses it to become someone different.
California is everything Eleanora thought it would be, and even more so when she meets Quinn, the shy, reserved and brooding musician who’s the complete opposite of the guys she’s used to back home.
For the first time, Quinn’s smitten. The new, mysterious waitress has him wrapped around her finger, and he finds that he is finally able to open up and trust someone outside of his family circle.
But living a different life comes with its risks, and for Eleanora, that risk is a secret that has the power to destroy both of them.

My Thoughts

Oh Sweet Quinn!!

Heidi McLaughlin brings the music back with CHASING MY FOREVER, the newest book in the Beaumont Next Generation series. We get to know more about Quinn who captured our hearts as the shy and quiet son of Harrison James.

From the beginning of CHASING MY FOREVER, we get an understanding of the importance of family .This is a major theme of all of the Beaumont books and one of the reasons that I’m drawn to them. And because of his childhood, family and acceptance and belonging is especially important to Quinn. We get to know about his family and their closeness and especially how accepting he is of the love from his mom - Katelyn. Early in the book, when his mind wanders to how they became a family "all I remember is my dad and I moving into the twins’ grandparent’s home, where I had my own room, two sisters and a mom who loved me without me asking her to” - THIS nearly broke my heart, but warmed it too. And this let me know that CHASING MY FOREVER is more than just a love story.

CHASING MY FOREVER is filled with tender moments and others that made me laugh.

Some favorite moments:
  • Every scene with Quinn and Katelyn
  • When the guys go camping - especially when Noah and Quinn connect
  • Katelyn meeting Nola
  • Nola meeting the family - this girl is really in for it, especially meeting everyone all at once!
I especially love how music is brought back into the storyline, first with Quinn playing in open mic nights (like Liam did many years ago) and then with the band. There is just something about music that, for me, elevates the connections and makes the bonds between characters even stronger.

CHASING MY FOREVER may be my favorite of the Next Generation books. What else can I say? I loved it!!

Synopsis

Ben Miller met the love of his life the day he crossed paths with Elle James in their high school cafeteria. New to Beaumont, he took a chance when he approached her. Their first encounter was everything his mother ever read to him about fairy tales. He saw the girl who would be his forever.
From the moment Elle James met Ben Miller they’ve been best friends. Everything they did, they did it together, from late night study sessions, family vacations, throwing bottles off the water tower, going to prom and finally moving to California for college.
However, after the almost tragic accident where she nearly lost her twin sister, Elle’s life hasn’t been the same, and neither has her relationship with Ben.
One fateful decision changes the scope of Ben and Elle’s relationship. For one, it means a new beginning. For the other, it means change.

My Thoughts

I always look forward to reading a new Beaumont book and MY UNEXPECTED LOVE was no exception. Pretty much as soon as I had this book in my hands, I started flipping pages. Elle's and Ben's story is full of angst and heartbreak. They have a moment that seems like their beginning only to become the beginning of their end - before they ever really get started.

Ben was first introduced in HOLDING ONTO FOREVER - these books do need to be read together to appreciate the connection and love that Ben has for Elle. While reading HOF, I was already rooting for this couple - best friends to more. Yes, please! Ben's love for Elle is evident and they needed to be together. She just needed to see it. It takes her a while to figure it out and hearts are will be shattered. Mine included.

What I loved:
  • Overwhelming sense of family. The Powell-James family are tight. I liked how, at different times, Quinn and Elle share their feelings about becoming a family.
  • Moments with Elle and Peyton - their bond and protectiveness is undeniable
  • Elle reflecting on her situation and taking control and making a change. She's the only one who can do it and she has to want it.
  • Getting glimpses of Jimmy, Jenna, and Eden (I can't wait to read Eden's story!)
Since Ben didn't appear in the original Beaumont books, I would have liked more of his and Elle's experiences as teens - whether those moments appear in flashbacks or reminiscing about those times. They are there, I just wanted more. This is the young adult reader in me coming out - I live for that.

MY UNEXPECTED LOVE made my heart hurt for Elle as she dealt with the aftermath of almost losing her sister and then losing best friend. Her unexpected love. But she had some growing to do and really being honest with herself. And that is what I love so much about these books - all of the love, the imperfections, and ultimately the Forevers.
