My Thoughts

This series is for any teenage (or former teenage) fangirl or fanboy. It's for anyone who ever covered their walls with posters of their favorite bands. It's for readers who spent countless hours reading Teen, Bop, and Tigerbeat to get a glimpse into the lives of their favorite musicians.

Each book of the series compliments the one published before it. They are fun, entertaining, and "take me back to my teens" books. I love recommending them to my friends.

Aimee and the Heartthrob by Ophelia London

I completely adore this book. It's the first book of the Backstage Pass series. It took me back to my NKOTB fan-girl days and there might have been some of my present day Maroon 5 loving self that identifies with it too. If you are a fan of music and fun, swoon-worthy boys and kissing, then you will love this book.

Mia and the Bad Boy by Lisa Burstein

I have immense love for Mia and Ryder. Their story is fun and innocently sexy. (Yes, that's a thing.) I love how Burstein infuses so much humor into her stories while filling up a small space in your heart. Reading Mia and the Bad Boy will make you laugh and smile and then laugh some more. It will make you want to eat a corn dog.

Daisy and the Front Man by Rebekah L. Purdy

Daisy and the Front Man is the third novel of the Backstage Pass series and it is the first book by Rebekah L. Purdy that I’ve read. I’m always looking to read books by new-to-me authors and this book being part of a series that I adore is a bonus! I’ve fallen for this fun boy band series and was excited to read this book with the tag line “Hell hath no fury like a fangirl scorned…” I just knew it had to be good.

Anya and the Shy Guy by Suze Winegardner

I have a crush on The Shy Guy. I have a crush on Will. I mean Matt. Yeah, Matt. Did you catch that?! Will is really Matt, Will's twin brother. When I first read that, I was all "What the what?" How did that happen? How can Matt pull it off? Who is in on the switch and how long can he keep it up the charade? Anya and the Shy Guy gives readers a little twist to The Backstage Pass series and it adds to the fun. I loved it!

Abby and the Cute One by Erin Butler

We get to meet the youngest member of Seconds to Juliet and understand the pressures he experiences as the remaining "available" member of the band. Nathan may be the young one, but he is in no way naive to ways of the music world and media popularity. A fun book to complete the series.

Thoughts on Confess, All Lined Up, and Aimee and the Heartthrob

CONFESS by Colleen Hoover
Publication Date: March 10, 2015
Pages: 306
Source: Purchased
Rating: 5 of 5

My Thoughts:
This book has my heart right now. I loved it. It made me laugh and it made me cry. Colleen Hoover is an amazing storyteller. I love how she used art and secrets and confessions to tell Auburn and Owen's story. There are so many special and intense moments that made my heart flutter and then break. I read Confess for my book club and it was loved by everyone. We all were so excited to talk about it and each had our own favorite part. It is a page-turner, a non-stop read. Readers will want to keep their schedules open because they won’t want to do anything else until they finish it. I didn’t.

ALL LINED UP by Cora Carmack
Publication Date: May 13, 2014
Pages: 320
Source: Purchased
Rating: 5 of 5

My Thoughts
All Lined Up was a book club selection that I read along with my friends. We'd all read books by Cora before and decided to read this one together. We loved the chemistry between the main characters and how they kept trying to set boundaries for their friendship but always willingly found ways to cross those boundaries. It was a fun, romantic read - a great pick me up, put a smile on your face, get you in a happy mood read.

AIMEE AND THE HEARTTHROB by Ophelia London

It's always the quiet ones...
Anya Anderson doesn't just need a big break, she needs any break. Living on the streets doesn't leave a girl many options, so when she scores a gig reporting on the Seconds to Juliet tour, she jumps at the chance to earn enough money to sleep somewhere safe. And the paycheck will get bigger - and keep her off the streets for good - if she can dig up dirt on Will Fray, the irritatingly hot "shy guy" of the band.
Problem is, Will Fray isn't who everyone thinks he is. In fact, he's not Will at all. Matt, Will's identical twin, is actually the guy onstage, reluctantly covering for his brother while he's in rehab. To make matters worse, Matt's being shadowed by a cute reporter with troubled eyes determined to get the scoop. On him. And he's having trouble finding the willpower to keep his distance...
But if the secret gets out, it won't just be his head on a platter - it'll be the whole band's.
This Entangled Teen Crush book contains steamy make out scenes, graphic language, and a love story so hot your copy may spontaneously burst into flames. You've been warned.

My Thoughts

I have a crush on The Shy Guy. I have a crush on Will. I mean Matt. Yeah, Matt. Did you catch that?! Will is really Matt, Will's twin brother. When I first read that, I was all "What the what?" How did that happen? How can Matt pull it off? Who is in on the switch and how long can he keep it up the charade? Anya and the Shy Guy gives readers a little twist to The Backstage Pass series and it adds to the fun. I loved it!

This book has a different feel to it compared to the others. There seemed to be less interaction between the band members which makes complete sense. Matt has a huge secret to hide and the less he interacts with the band members, the less of a chance there is that he will be found out. I did want more interactions because I enjoy the comradarie with the other guys. There are some great one-liners so we do get a bit of the other guys in Seconds to Juliet (more Ryder please!)

Like not-Will, Anya has her own secrets that she must keep and must walk a fine line to keep them. I like how Winegardner addressed Anya's struggles and her needs and didn't trivialize her experience. I did want to know more about Anya's background and her relationship with her mom. We get pieces, but that is something that I would have like more of.

Some favorite moments:

  • The eating contest between Matt and Anya
  • Anya becoming friends with Natasha
  • Rooftops at night
  • "WET" serenade

Some favorite quotes:

"Anyway, if you're not living life on the edge, you're taking up too much room."
"I'm going to remind you that you said that."

"Don't be embarrassed. Or if you are embarrassed, get used to it because I intend on kissing you like that every chance I get." He paused, his gaze wandering over her face. "You're phenomenal, and you're mine. Wait. That didn't come out right. I meant I'm yours. If you'll have me."

Love it!!!

Each book of the series continues to compliment the others published before it. I look forward to reading each book and I love recommending them to my friends. They are fun, entertaining, and "take me back to my teens" books.

Review: DAISY AND THE FRONT MAN by Rebekah L. Purdy

Daisy and the Front Man
Backstage Pass #3

(from Goodreads)

Hell hath no fury like a fangirl scorned…

When Daisy Morris finds out she’s spending the summer with her dad, bodyguard for Seconds to Juliet—the hottest boy band around—she knows it couldn't be more perfect. But not because she’s a fan. Oh, no. Because ever since front man Trevin Jacobs completely humiliated her by standing her up for homecoming, Daisy is out for a little revenge. Yup, Trevin Jacobs is goin' down...

When one of his bandmates bets Trevin he can't make Daisy—the gorgeous but surprisingly ice-cold daughter of their bodyguard—fall in love with him, it’s a bet he can’t resist. Sure, Daisy won’t give him the time of day for reasons he can't understand, and her dad’s hell-bent against his little girl spending time with a superstar. But the terms are set, and Trevin is determined to make Daisy fall…hard.

But every front man should know never to trust a girl with a pretty face…

My Thoughts

Daisy and the Front Man is the third novel of the Backstage Pass series and it is the first book by Rebekah L. Purdy that I’ve read. I’m always looking to read books by new-to-me authors and this book being part of a series that I adore is a bonus! I’ve fallen for this fun boy band series and was excited to read this book with the tag line “Hell hath no fury like a fangirl scorned…” I just knew it had to be good.

Like Daisy, I was stood up by a guy for a high school dance (so I could totally relate to her situation), but unlike Daisy, I didn’t seek revenge. So I wanted to know the lengths that she would go to to make Trevin pay. But there is a problem. Trevin is a nice guy and, with all of the things he does for Daisy, he makes it very easy for the reader to like him. And Daisy realizes this about him too and she starts to fall for him. But then there’s the bet . . .

I must admit the storyline of the bet didn’t really work for me. It never seemed that Trevin was taking action because of the bet. Daisy had her own reasons for not liking Trevin. The effort he put in to making Daisy like him was because he really wanted her to like him (because he liked her) - not because of some stupid bet with Ryder. This is the one thing that I didn’t like about the storyline because it just seems unnecessary.

I don’t want to stress on that too much because there are MANY things that I do like about Daisy and the Front Man like:

  • The funny pranks Daisy pulls to get back at Trevin
  • The moments that Daisy and Trevin were getting along - there’s this one courtyard scene that is all about the swoon!
  • Bodyguard Beau
  • Daisy rebuilding her relationship with her dad
  • The interactions between the band members. There seemed to be more in this book than in the others.
  • Oh and I love the cover too!
Daisy and the Front Man is a great continuation of this fun series. I love getting to meet the guys of Seconds to Juliet and the girls in their lives. Sometimes it’s easy to forget that they are a made up band and not a real band filling the pages of teeny-bopper magazines and “clogging” the airwaves with their bubblegum pop songs. I can’t wait to read the next one!

Waiting On Wednesday is a weekly event, hosted by Jill at Breaking the Spine, that spotlights upcoming releases that we're eagerly anticipating.

This week's pre-publication "can't-wait-to-read" selection is:

Daisy and the Front Man

Why I'm Waiting

  • I adore this series! I loved Aimee and the Heartthrob and Mia and the Bad Boy.
  • I'm a bit of a fangirl. I was obsessed with NKOTB back in the day.
  • Rebekah L. Purdy is a new to me author.
  • Like Daisy, I was stood up to a school dance. I want to find out how she gets revenge.
What book are you waiting on?
