My Thoughts

This series is for any teenage (or former teenage) fangirl or fanboy. It's for anyone who ever covered their walls with posters of their favorite bands. It's for readers who spent countless hours reading Teen, Bop, and Tigerbeat to get a glimpse into the lives of their favorite musicians.

Each book of the series compliments the one published before it. They are fun, entertaining, and "take me back to my teens" books. I love recommending them to my friends.

Aimee and the Heartthrob by Ophelia London

I completely adore this book. It's the first book of the Backstage Pass series. It took me back to my NKOTB fan-girl days and there might have been some of my present day Maroon 5 loving self that identifies with it too. If you are a fan of music and fun, swoon-worthy boys and kissing, then you will love this book.

Mia and the Bad Boy by Lisa Burstein

I have immense love for Mia and Ryder. Their story is fun and innocently sexy. (Yes, that's a thing.) I love how Burstein infuses so much humor into her stories while filling up a small space in your heart. Reading Mia and the Bad Boy will make you laugh and smile and then laugh some more. It will make you want to eat a corn dog.

Daisy and the Front Man by Rebekah L. Purdy

Daisy and the Front Man is the third novel of the Backstage Pass series and it is the first book by Rebekah L. Purdy that I’ve read. I’m always looking to read books by new-to-me authors and this book being part of a series that I adore is a bonus! I’ve fallen for this fun boy band series and was excited to read this book with the tag line “Hell hath no fury like a fangirl scorned…” I just knew it had to be good.

Anya and the Shy Guy by Suze Winegardner

I have a crush on The Shy Guy. I have a crush on Will. I mean Matt. Yeah, Matt. Did you catch that?! Will is really Matt, Will's twin brother. When I first read that, I was all "What the what?" How did that happen? How can Matt pull it off? Who is in on the switch and how long can he keep it up the charade? Anya and the Shy Guy gives readers a little twist to The Backstage Pass series and it adds to the fun. I loved it!

Abby and the Cute One by Erin Butler

We get to meet the youngest member of Seconds to Juliet and understand the pressures he experiences as the remaining "available" member of the band. Nathan may be the young one, but he is in no way naive to ways of the music world and media popularity. A fun book to complete the series.

Waiting on Wednesday: The Backstage Pass Series

Waiting On Wednesday is a weekly event, hosted by Jill at Breaking the Spine, that spotlights upcoming releases that we're eagerly anticipating.

This week's pre-publication "can't-wait-to-read" selection is:

The Backstage Pass series

Aimee and the Heartthrob
by Ophelia London
Publication Date 4/14/15
Published by: Entangled Crush

He never noticed her before, but now she's all he can see…

Miles Carlisle is every teen girl’s fantasy. His rugged good looks and exotic British accent have helped catapult his boy band, Seconds to Juliet, to super-stardom. But after two disastrous and very public breakups, Miles isn’t interested in dating just any girl; he wants The One. And the only girl he’s interested in is not only his best friend’s little sister―and off-limits―but won’t even give him the time of day…

As a kid, Aimee Bingham ‫   had a huge thing for Miles…until he made fun of her for always tagging along. Now that she’s outgrown both him and her pigtails, the prospect of spending two weeks on tour with the childhood crush who broke her heart isn’t exactly enticing. Except now Miles seems interested. Very interested. And no matter how hard Aimee tries to resist him, her crush is definitely making a comeback.

But everyone knows that falling for a heartthrob is a backstage pass to heartbreak…

AND

Mia and the Bad Boy
by Lisa Burstein
Publication Date 5/19/15
Published by Entangled Crush

This good girl’s about to meet her match…
Ryder Brooks is living the dream—he’s famous, loved by millions of girls, and miserable. All he really wants is to write his own music, not Seconds to Juliet’s sugary sweet pop. In order to do that, though, the “bad boy” of the band will have to play by the rules. And that includes behaving with his new—and super cute—über-good-girl tutor.

Mia Reyes is in fangirl heaven. Tutoring her favorite member of her favorite band? It’s a dream come true…until it turns into a complete nightmare. Ryder is nothing like she thought. He’s crude, arrogant, and pretty much a total jerk. And the worst part? She’s roped into pretending to be his girlfriend so that no one finds out he’s being tutored. Fake kisses, plenty of PDA, and even sharing his hotel room…

But sometimes even the baddest of bad boys needs a little redemption.

Why I'm Waiting
  • I've been known to fangirl over a certain favorite band, so I can see the appeal of having a crush on the members of this fictional band
  • A favorite author, Lisa Burstein, has a book in the series
  • There are 3 more books in the series and I'll have the opportunity to discover some new-to-me authors
  • I enjoy reading companion novels
  • The books just seem like they will be a lot of fun to read: music, humor, kissing, cute boys - sounds like a good time to me!

It's Release Week: THE REALITY O by Candy Sloane/Lisa Burstein

The Reality O, in Five Words
Hilarious- this is by far the funniest book I’ve ever written.
Sexy- When you get um…er excited reading over scenes you’ve read way more than once as you edit you know it’s damn sexy.
Witty-The one-liners in this go on and on.
Current- I wanted to take something that is everywhere right now- reality TV- and flip it on its head, or private parts in this case.
HOT- Try not wanting Scott the hero, to pay you a visit late at night, just try.

About a year ago a book titled Sneaking Candy was released. It was about a creative writing graduate student (Candice Salinas) and her erotic romance author alter-ego (Candy Sloane). Readers fell in love with Candy and so did author Lisa Burstein.

Lisa fell so much in love SHE WROTE A BOOK as Candy Sloane.

The Reality O is Candy Sloane's first standalone debut erotic romance novel, but it may not be her last...

Fifteen Contestants, Twelve Episodes & One Chance to Rock Her World

When my best friend Allie posted about my need for an inaugural O on a prominent dating website it was meant to be a joke.

A joke she was supposed to delete.

But her post started an internet and media frenzy and, when I was offered fifty thousand dollars to star in my own reality competition show, I had no choice but to say yes.

The show was supposed to help me meet a carnal companion who could finally bring me to climax.
Unfortunately, the one person I want to win the undying allegiance of my, well, you know, can’t be in the running at all.

Now in an L.A. mansion with fifteen very persuasive contestants vying for my attention and one undeniably sexy Production Assistant secretly getting it all the word ACTION has a whole new meaning…

Author's Note: This book is about sex. There are men kissing women, women kissing women, and men kissing lady parts. It is not meant for readers under eighteen, or my mother.

You certainly don't have to read Sneaking Candy before you read The Reality O, but if you would like to it's $0.99 right now on all e-book platforms!

Book Blast: AGAIN by Lisa Burstein

I'll take any opportunity I can to share Lisa Burstein's books. I'm also known for giving away copies of her books to readers because I want them to read her stories and know her characters. Today I am taking part in the AGAIN book blast organized by FlirtySubsPR.

Why I love this book:

"One thing I love about Again is how the characters are realistically vulnerable. They make decisions that aren't always for the best. Kate and Carter are not just flawed, they are real. . . . . More than anything though, Kate and Carter, through all their ups and downs, let readers understand and accept that we are all just works in progress."

My Thoughts

When I first read the synopsis of Again, I was excited that it was a story about second chances (those are some of my favorites) and I wanted to see how Kate was going to pull off the charade of being a nineteen year old college freshman when she was twenty-nine. Just throw on some tights and boots and she will fit right in! Aside from her young appearance, she doesn't act like a twenty-nine year old would (or should?), and there were many times that I forgot she was supposed to be twenty-nine, so she convinced me!

What I love so much about Again are the characters. Each one is unique and interesting in their own way. While the main story is about Kate and Carter, their friends and roommates, Dawn, Tristan, and Veronica, have their own stories and we get to know them on more that just a surface level. Given that Again is not a long novel (only 252 pages), to be able to have such well developed supporting characters is a testament to the author's writing.

Another thing I love about Again is how the characters are realistically vulnerable. They make decisions that aren't always for the best. Kate and Carter are not just flawed, they are real. They have hang-ups, doubts, and moments (or years) of self-loathing, but they also have moments of self-awareness and are forgiving of themselves and others. More than anything though, Kate and Carter, through all their ups and downs, let readers understand and accept that we are all just works in progress.

Again addresses a topic that I've yet to encounter in many books and that is the passive bystander. Carter is witness to the moments leading up to an assault and instead of trying to stop it from happening, he walks away. I wouldn't go as far as saying that this is an "issue book" but it does open up the lines for a much needed dialogue.*

Whether readers are just now discovering Lisa Burstein through her self-published debut or they are devoted fans who seek out her books (like I do), Again will leave them begging for more. I loved it so much, it's a book I want all of my friends to read. I've already purchased and gifted copies to five of them (and convinced a few others to read it too)!

*The day after I finished Again, the university where I am employed sent out a notice for "Bystander Intervention Training." I don't think this is a coincidence, but an acknowledgment that the time has come for us to accept the responsibility for the safety of others.

Disclaimer:  I received this e-ARC from Wordsmith Publicity in exchange for my honest review.  I was not compensated in any way other than the e-ARC provided. I have also purchased a final copy of this title for my personal library. Thoughts and opinions are my own.
