 Beginner's Love by Norma Klein

I had another great week for books. I got the much anticipated Delirium and now I can find out what has brought so many bloggers to tears. I haven't started reading it yet but it is nearing the top of my list.

A funny thing happened on Thursday. Several people emailed me and IM'd me about a used book sale that was going on in town. I didn't plan to go, but after the third invitation (from my aunt who I rarely get to spend time with) I decided to go, just to check out what they were offering. Let me just say, they were offering a lot! I could have left with arm-loads (my aunt did), but I'm working on the impulse buying (and the hoarding) and I almost made it out of there without any books at all. But (because there is always a but) when I saw Beginner's Love by Norma Klein I didn't want to pass it over. I'd remembered reading Jennifer O'Connell's post at YA Outside the Lines and how these books shaped O'Connell as a reader and a writer and I just couldn't pass it up. The book was only fifty cents so I don't feel guilty about it at all.

I can't wait to see what everyone else got in their mailbox this week. Happy reading!

There are certain months of the year that I go a little crazyboots when buying books: August - my birthday month, October - huge book release month (at least I think it is), and January - in hopes that there will be a big snowstorm that will have me housebound for days. Of course this never happens but I always hope that it will and I buy books. Well, this is my excuse this year anyway. On Thursday I treated myself at a 3 for 2 bargain book sale at Books-a-Million and then came home to find I had 4 separate packages waiting for me! Needless to say I have imposed a book buying ban for the rest of January (and possibly February but that may be pushing it).

I can't wait to see what you got in your mailbox (and for the snow to start falling).

Secret Santa Purchases! and they're on the way!

This week was a stellar week for books! I happened upon a gift certificate (ok, my husband spoils me) and I finally got a copy of Psych Major Syndrome. It was been on my wishlist for months! I also received Just Breathe from my mom. She had no idea that I have been eyeing the book for a while now (I love the cover), and she showed up to my house with it, just out of the blue!  And I also received some books for review that I can't wait to dive into! As for the Secret Santa gifts, well, I may have gone a bit overboard (it was my first time participating). My husband thinks so, but I was excited to buy books for someone that I know will love them!

So, what did you get in your mailbox this week?

The Friday Five (9)

1. I have signed up for the Holiday Readathon at WhoRuBlog. The Read-a-thon is from December 2nd through the 5th with some mini-challenges along the way. I have pledged to donate a penny per page read. And with a lot of books on my TBR list, I know that it will add up really quick. I love the idea of a read-a-thon for charity, so I've asked some friends to support me. They have also pledged pennies per pages or $5 for each book I read. Others have generously given straight-out donations. I've already been given so much support. They are the greatest! AND the best part is I get to choose where the money will be donated. Anyone can participate, just sign up at http://www.whorublog.com/

 2. One of my recent favorite reads, Rot & Ruin by Jonathan Maberry, was named one of the 10 Best Post-Apocalyptic Books at Random Buzzers and I am quoted! To see the complete list, check it out here at Random Buzzers.

3. CONTEST: I am giving away an ARC of either Jumpstart the World by Catherine Ryan Hyde or The Things a Brother Knows by Dana Reinhardt. The contest is international and ends 11/27/2010. You can still enter to win here

4. Currently Reading: Same Difference by Siobhan Vivian
Currently Listening to: Tell Me A Secret by Holly Cupala
Soon to Leave the Shelf: A Blue So Dark by Holly Schindler

5. I just wanted to say thank you to all of those who read my blog. Whether you stop by daily to read my posts or just check it out once I week, I really appreciate it. This has been so much fun for me and I hope that you find my posts interesting and entertaining. I love reading comments and book suggestions that you give me. Thanks for visiting and I hope you keep coming back!

The Friday Five is inspired by Sarah Dessen's blog on LiveJournal. I've been following this blog the longest and love how she recaps her week with the Friday Five, now called The Five.
